Washington, July 21 (PTI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday said he was proud that Muslims in India were patriots and "not one" of them had joined the ranks of terrorist outfits like Al Qaeda.
"We have 150 million citizens who practice the faith of Islam. And I say it with some pride about their patriotism that not one of them has joined the ranks of these gangs like the Al Qaeda or other terrorist activities", Singh told mediapersons at the National Press Club here.
Says a lot about how stupid and offending some generalizations can be. Jai Hind!

as usual bulb da...:P she thought u were ridiculing the statement... to be fair to sri, ur statement wasnt too clear in the first place..especially the Jai Hind was a bit misleading.

btw, as much as it is a generalization to say that all muslims (including indian muslims) are theeviravadis, so is it to say that all 150 million indian muslims arent!!!

Ram i feel discriminating people based on their religion, caste and race is very bad. All are humans. Adu dhan modhala irukanum. All Indian Muslims are first Indians then only Muslims, apo avanoda patriotism pathi oruthar comment ipadi adikaradhu is stupid and hurting. Adhulayum oru Country oda leader ipadi solaradh is very bad.

I understand that our PM has given a statement that says good about our country men, but adu avar sollidhan theriyanumnu illaye.
Na ena feel panenaka ipo ivar ipadi sonnadhu naala it will provoke the Hindus against muslims, simple reason, they will relate this statement with ayodhya issue and other such events. Idu thungara kozhandaya kili vidaramadiri oru statementa irruku.

Sri- exactly what i had in my mind! I just wanted to make sure u had the same in yours :). Yes- as much as the statement sounds to be appreciative of indian muslims, it indeed will be hurting if u r a patriotic indian muslim, but only at first glance. indian first and muslim next as u rightly put it. I laud him though for putting across a point- a point that indian muslims are not part of any such terrorist organizations...a reasonably stupid generalization made against another damned stupid generalization. It's very tough for an indian muslim who fails to see the big picture to view that statement in this angle...but i sincerely believe that the PM meant well. The statement is for all those racists(and just for them!) who believe that any born muslim is a terrorist. It's always a catch-22 situation there if u r a politician...
PV- I indeed was supportive of what the PM had to say. I saw the big picture and it meant well. Indian muslims, i strongly believe are very very very patriotic(no reason not to be!). An offending discrimination which meant nothing but good wont tick them off.
and all's well that ends well....hence the "Jai Hind".

i need some comments from people who follow religious tolerance(read respect people for what they are rather than who they are) or are muslims...
desi@heart - i guess it'll be "preaching" phase now and i most certainly dont want to go there, as my basic way of life is not to preach...as long as u r not the bjp type, u wont further my worries! :)
