Is it possible to love and dread a country for the same reason? I do.
I love the United States of America for it gives me the freedom to do what i want to do, without the necessity to bother the people around.
I dread it because it thinks that a 70 year old lady driving her car without anyone in the passenger seat, living alone and managing everything on her own, is an epitome of "independence".

yeah... its a crazy country
btw, will u go back to india?? i mean go back for good... at some point in time?? :P
Totally crazy place.
India has surely gone up a couple of notches in my esteem in less than a week.
PV- yes, i will. this country is not for a person like me...
K7- East or West, India is the best nu summaavaa sonnaanga periyavanga ;)
how soon ram?? i might be on the same flight depending on when u leave :P
Home sweet home always :)
But, as far as living alone and managing everything on their own, I know a lot of elderly people in India who prefer that!!
PV- between 3 and 5 years is my guess
Naren- i dont know who'd prefer living alone...managing everything on their own is OK...but living alone...
same pinch :P
Sorgame endralum adu nammora pola varumaa :-"
The way independence is perceived (by her) rests with the old lady. The way others perceive it to be is potrayed to the world. And I guess we are looking only at the latter half...
Totally agree ! When I see a million dollar home all posh but standing dead quiet with two big cars in the driveway, I cant help thinking how lively it would have been if it had been built in India.
PV- cool ;)
Sri- yupp!
Siva- whatever the perception, i'll be baffled to see a 70 year lady "wanting" to live alone. I will never be able to understand that...
Vidya- true. too much of anything is not good...independence is no exception, i guess!
I dont think people "want" independence this way. Maybe circumstances made her take a decision that she is better off living alone..
