indRu oru thagaval

listening to a winamp radio now...a tamil one. A few minutes back, a lady was saying some thathuvams, one of which went like this,

"selvaththai saemiththu vaikka siRandha idam yezhayin vayiRu"
got goosebumps immediately.

"thani oru manidhanukku uNavillayenil indha jagaththinai azhiththiduvom"
-mahakavi Bharathi

nanru..ennam irundum seyal irupadillai evlavo peridam..am reminded of an incident when my husband jumped off a waiting train to tmbm coz we had just seen a man eat food spilled across the tracks..he bought all the kinds of tiffin available at the railway canteen, crossed the tracks to give it to him and came back to join me..we both sat in silence..the sorrow was too much..

@sukhanya very true.. and how many of us waste food without a thought..thiruvalluvar had a needle and a pot of water to pick up grains after he had had his meal..we don't seem to learn anything at all..

and yes, i share the same view as you. but am not brave enough to not put money in hundi at all...

MJ- I try my level best not to waste food and there have been numerous occasions where i have had to finish my friends' "to be trashed" food when we go out to a restaurant and have been an object of ridicule for doing the same, although the effect is that of "eruma mela paenja mazha" :P. But, am sure they'll realise some day what the worth of the food they waste is :)

@ram,gud thing..don't mind the gaffes at ur expense..:)
@RC..money' s yet another thing..u can give foodif they r hungry..no harm in that..is there?if they ask u money, ask them back what they wud do with it..if they say they wil buy food..u buy them that food.

Raz- yedhula udanpaadu illa? where did i talk about giving money to anybody? :-?

MJ- i won't...

Ram said...

Raz- u did not understand what MJ was saying and money is just one means to help, and a trivial one according to me. As a forward i got from Jammy few days back said,
"People will forget what you said
People will forget what you did
But people will never forget
How you made them feel"

Ram i dont agree with u in this.

I try my level best not to waste food and there have been numerous occasions where i have had to finish my friends' "to be trashed"

apadi seiyaradhu ena artham? Is ur stomach and dustbin the same?? :O [-x Pidikada ona or which is in excess doesnt necessarily get into ur stomach. Aduku badila u cud have packed the same and come out and give it to some poor child or beggars in the roadside.

ipo solladhe.. echal.. unhygene.. if u ate ur friends food that was also echal and unhygene.

Ram said...

Sri- It means my stomach is better than a dustbin...
1. there arent many veggie items i dislike
2. i dont eat when i'll explode if i eat any more. eating until that point is absolutely fine
3. packing is the last resort. it is less embarassing to finish it right there than to pack a little leftover from every single person's food.
4. fortunately, it's hard to find a poor child or beggars at will here. So, packed food goes home and becomes lunch for the next day.
5. when there are people eating from kuppathottis, my heart wont let me think about yechal and hygeine.

meghjanmi said...

I think one can eat as much as he can digest.and if he can work it off..all the more better..
and abt ppl eating from kuppathotis..i have seen them fight with dogs..in our marriage systems, lakhs r spent for food..i would vote for a special pandhi for such ppl...tradition,cast apdinnu ayiram nolla saaku solvanga..

Heidi Kris said...

Ram U doesnt necessarily mean you. And most prbly i guess there wont be any road side beggars in US of A. I was referring to anybody who dump leftover food into their stomach!
My mom does that often. She eats nethi kozhambu, mundanethi satumdhu, aduku munadi naal kutu..

I would suggest : Prepare only that much you want. Similar way - Order only that much you can eat. Fresh food daily and not must of wastage.

Ram said...

Sri-
1. if you did not refer to me, cool. I was talking only about myself here all along and so did not realise u'd put a general point across.
2. One's got to be a prophet to order the exact amount of food they need, especially when they go out to eat as a group. And if one doesnt care about trashing excess food, one wouldnt care about ordering the exact amount either. I've started ordering less than what I need these days when we go out as a group, the best I can do.
